Community Access & Social Participation

What Is Social and Community Participation?

Community is at the heart of a good life. It’s where friendships form, confidence grows, and independence begins to flourish. Yet for many NDIS participants, getting involved in community activities can feel out of reach without the right kind of support.

That’s where the Social and Community Participation NDIS category comes in. It’s all about connection, belonging, and giving people the chance to live active, fulfilling lives in their communities.

Why It Matters

Everyone needs connection. Whether it’s chatting with neighbours, meeting new friends, or simply spending time outside, these moments play a powerful role in wellbeing.

Daily Activities Explained

The NDIS recognises that taking part in daily activities is closely linked to social participation. The Daily Activities category focuses on helping participants with essential day-to-day routines, while Social and Community Participation builds on those foundations by encouraging real-world engagement.

When these two supports work together, they create a balanced pathway to independence.
For example:

– Daily Activities might focus on preparing a meal or organising transport.

– Social and Community Participation might involve cooking with others in a class or joining a community lunch group.

Both are about learning, connection, and personal growth  just in different settings. At Empowered Care AU, we combine these supports where appropriate, ensuring participants can put their daily living skills into practice within the community.
